TDX participates in the MetaArchive Cooperative

The cooperative repository Tesis Doctorals en Xarxa (TDX) takes part in the international MetaArchive Cooperative, one of the project of preservation on a worldwide level, thus guarantee the protection of the digital cultural patrimony throughout the years.

TDX has joint the cooperative network with the aim of assuring even more the preservation of the thesis together with taking part in one of the pioneer projects worldwide in this field. The MetaArchive Cooperative network uses LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) software, and its operation is based on the distribution of copies of the thesis in different servers of the institutions participants, assigned arbitrarily and with criterion of geographical distribution. In order to assure the documents preservation, several periodical revisions bit to bit of the data are carried out to detect any corruption and re-establish, if necessary, the files integrity.

Several universities and libraries all over the world take part in this cooperative network and, although most of them are from North America, there is one n Brazil, another in United Kingdom and now the TDX. Among the centres taking part in this cooperative repository, there are the Georgia Tech, the Virginia Tech and the Library Congress.
