CESCA President

I welcome you to the Supercomputing Centre of Catalonia Consortium (CESCA).

In 1991, the creation of the consortium was promoted by the Catalan government through the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation, in collaboration with the universities and the Spanish National Research Council.

At first, CESCA aimed to provide an infrastructure to act as a supercomputing centre. In the meanwhile, that foundational aim evolved and CESCA has expanded its activity in order to contribute new values and services to the academic and scientific communities and the R&D system, on the whole.

Thereby, from 1996, CESCA focused its activity on managing ITC-based infrastructures and is a centre which offers scientific and academic services nowadays. The centre, without own researchers, is made up by specialized technical staff, qualified in several activity areas described at this website, where you will find the main news related to its services and its users as well.

Throughout these years, CESCA has shown its efficiency, acknowledged with the Narcís Monturiol plaque in 2001, both in its generalist kind services (Anella Científica, digital repositories, portals and databases) and its more specific ones (high performance computing, drugs design, neutral internet exchange), rendering cooperative use of public resources profitable, providing leading use of ITCs at university and becoming a key instrument to develop research and the Information Society in Catalonia.
